Big Walk Map Guide: Every Area, Tower and Zone Explained
Updated 2026-09-03 · Steam Big Walk
The big walk game map is a single island that opens up in stages. You start in a walled tutorial area, drop a drawbridge to reach the rest of the world, and then unlock four coloured towers whose keys switch on the Map Room, the chairlift, the tunnel network and the monorail. A fifth black tower opens only after the other four are done. Until the Map Room is running you have no in-game map at all, so the early hours are navigated by landmark, voice and guesswork.
House House has never published an official map or a list of area names. Everything below is assembled from the community Fandom wiki and from player-written Steam guides, including a community interactive map with filterable pins, so treat the names and directions as player-reported rather than official labels.
How the island is laid out
Players describe the world as one continuous island with a rough colour logic to it. The community interactive-map guide sorts every pin into four buckets, which is a useful way to picture the place: challenges, equipment sites, landmarks and transport. The 100 percent achievement guide talks about a "red section" and a "green section" joined by a mountain pass, and about coloured doors that all open at once when the tunnel key is used, so the colour of a tower roughly matches the region it sits in.
Three edges of the map matter for progression. The starting area sits behind a raised drawbridge in the east-centre of the island. The Wall is far to the west and stays shut until the black tower is finished. The challenge ridge is far to the east, reached by chairlift, behind a purple tunnel door that players report only opens after the ending.
| Area | Where players place it | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Tutorial Zone | Behind the starting area, red floor and red-and-white walls | Individual spawn pods, control posters, buoy pits, a large locked door opened much later |
| Starting Area | East-centre, sealed by the drawbridge | The first four gourds, the key filers, the Customization Room, a flare and an item scanner |
| Beach Tower area | Just past the tutorial exit | The four puzzles players use to drop the drawbridge: a crane, a spyglass on the mountain path, a blue house and green scaffolding |
| Map Room | Up a broad staircase beside the tutorial area | A miniature of the whole island, plus the map, compass and a laser pointer |
| Mountain pass | Between the red and green regions, near the golf course | A shortcut players group with the tunnels as a quick way to cross regions |
| Challenge ridge | Far east, top of the chairlift | Seven challenge puzzles behind a purple tunnel |
| The Wall | Far west | The final gate, then the sphere and the ending |
Two notes on names. The reward you carry back to each tower is called a gourd on the Fandom wiki, which says the name comes from developer files, but most Steam guides call the same object a blorb. And the black tower is described on Fandom as a tall speaker-like structure, while achievement guides call it the black obelisk.
The five towers and what each key unlocks
This is the backbone of the map, because each tower key turns on a different way of moving around. Fandom's Towers page and the community interactive map agree on the pairings; the achievement guide adds the gourd counts and the destination of each key.
| Tower | Gourds needed | Key is used at | What it turns on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red | 5 | The stairway beside the tutorial area | The Map Room, and with it your first real map |
| Green | 5 | The lift station near the tower | The chairlift, linking the blue, yellow and black tower areas |
| Yellow | 5 | The yellow door | The tunnel network and every other coloured door |
| Blue | 5 | The monorail station near the tower | All three monorail trains |
| Black | 6 | The gate at the Wall, far west | The route past the Wall into the endgame |
Before that, the very first key comes from four gourds in the starting area and drops the drawbridge. Every key has to be shaped before it fits: Fandom's notes on key filers say each key visits five separate filing stations, and that a filer points an arrow toward the next unused one, so you are led around a small tour of the region rather than hunting blind. Full tower-by-tower detail lives on towers, and the puzzles that produce the gourds are on puzzles.
One community guide suggests red, then green, then blue, then yellow, then black as a completion order. That is one player's route, not a required sequence.
Getting around: tunnels, chairlift, monorail
Once the keys are in, the island has four travel systems layered on top of walking.
| System | Unlocked by | Player verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Drawbridge | The starting-area key | The gate to everything else, opened first |
| Tunnels | Yellow tower key | Rated the fastest way to cross between regions |
| Chairlift | Green tower key | The only route to the challenge ridge in the far east, and to the highest peak one stop west of the lift station |
| Monorail | Blue tower key | Slow, with few trains; one achievement guide calls it unhelpful for actual travel |
The mountain shortcut near the golf course is the other route players single out, because it links the red and green regions without any unlock at all. Be careful around the chairlift itself: the same guide describes the lift pushing a player off the mountain, and an item dropped on a moving chair taking a full ten-minute lap to come back.
Navigating before and after the Map Room
The Map Room is the single most useful location on the island. Fandom describes it as a scale miniature of the island that plants flags on the puzzles you have already solved, and the backpack guide notes bluntly that you need the room unlocked before you can carry an actual map. The room also hands out three navigation items at once: the map, the compass, and a laser pointer.
| Tool | Where it is found | What it does for navigation |
|---|---|---|
| Map | Map Room table | Shows the whole island; used together with the compass |
| Compass | Map Room | The four cardinal directions |
| GPS | Near the Green Tower | Reads out horizontal coordinates, and some puzzles are given as coordinate pairs |
| Binoculars | Tops of towers | Zooms in on distant landmarks |
| Laser pointer | Tower tops and the Map Room | Points precisely at something far away, or straight up as a location beacon |
| Flare gun | Starting area; other spots not confirmed yet | A bright signal flare for players who are lost, and a light source |
| Whiteboard | Outside the Map Room, and one behind the GPS | Typed messages for silent coordination |
Coordinates are worth learning early. Fandom documents a caged-gourd puzzle signed 4166 1899, where the numbers are a GPS destination that leads to a hold-to-open button. A separate guide points to a headphone-and-chair puzzle at roughly 3560, 2040 near the Blue Tower. Once you can read coordinates aloud, describing a meeting point over voice stops being a game of charades. The full item list is on items.
Landmarks and equipment sites worth remembering
Beyond towers and puzzles, the island is dotted with repeating structures that always hold the same class of thing. Recognising them on sight saves a lot of walking.
- Blue circular or spiral buildings hold backpacks and hip bags. Players compare them to parking garages. A backpack adds one item slot of any size, a waist bag adds a small-item slot, and both have to be put on or taken off by another player.
- Small podiums hold buoys, the omnidirectional lanterns that are the most common light source in the game.
- Yellow stepped pedestals, described as climbable cubes, hold the three megaphones. Every one of them needs a teammate boost to reach, and all three are mapped on megaphone locations.
- Paired holders hold blue and yellow walkie-talkies. Guides list four holder sites plus a bonus unit under the Blue Tower, and a lost unit respawns at its holder.
- Music-themed landmarks hide the seven radio transmitters that unlock channels on the handheld radio, listed on radio locations.
- The Customization Room in the starting area is a half-roofed structure with a paint swatch wall, and is the only place the paintbrush works properly.
- A weather balloon north of the green and blue towers is where one achievement guide found an item that lets you carry one extra gourd, and which also mounts on a backpack.
- A salon inside the tunnel network, near the red-to-blue connection and the rave room, is where the shiny paint colours are.
Most of the twelve Steam achievements are tied to reaching one of these places, so the map and the achievement list are close to the same document; see achievements.
Patch changes that affect the terrain
The developers have quietly reshaped small parts of the map since launch. Version 1.5.0 on 26 August 2026 fixed a patch of trees that had no collision. Version 1.5.1 on 28 August 2026 made certain walls harder to clip through, closed a spot where a player could be picked up across a turnstile, and fixed lighting that stayed wrong after part of the game. Version 1.4.9 also hardened walls that had been trapping players and added a missing collider in one challenge. If a traversal trick you read about online no longer works, one of those patches is the likely reason. Version 1.5.1 also extended the range of the voice-amplifying item, which changes how far apart a group can safely spread out.
Sources and last check
Checked 3 September 2026. Area names, the tower and key pairings, the Map Room description, the key filer behaviour, item pickup spots and the Customization Room come from the community Fandom wiki pages for Locations, Towers, Items, Key, Gourd, Map Room, Tutorial Zone and Customization Room at big-walk-game.fandom.com, which is written by players rather than by House House.
Gourd counts per tower, the key destinations, the drawbridge sequence, the mountain shortcut, the verdict on the monorail, the weather balloon item, the tunnel salon and the challenge ridge are player-tested notes from the Steam guides "Big Walk - 100% Achievement Guide" and "Big Walk - Challenge Puzzles Advice", both by the same author. The four pin categories, the backpack and waist bag slot rules and the tower unlock summary come from the community interactive map guide, and the suggested tower order from the short "BIG WALK GUIDE" note. Megaphone, walkie-talkie, radio and drawbridge details are from the corresponding 2026 updated Steam location guides. All of these are player reports, and none of them are confirmed by the developers.
Patch details are from the official House House Steam announcements for 1.5.1 on 28 August 2026, 1.5.0 on 26 August 2026 and 1.4.10 with 1.4.9 on 21 August 2026, summarised on patch notes. The total of twelve achievements is from the Big Walk Steam store page.
